| 概要 | This collection contains seventeen articles published since 1980 (five are in French, the rest are in English) that concern the problems of space, society, and economy in such large Arab cities as Cai...o and Aleppo from c.1500- 1800. Among the topics are a critique of earlier, Orientalist theories of Islamic cities; the growth of the Christian community in Aleppo; a comparative study of Aleppo and Cairo at the end of the 18th century; urban centralization in Algiers in 1830; and several articles about the structure, economics, and politics of Ottoman Cairo. Several of the studies are illustrated with detailed city plans. Raymond was formerly affiliated with French archaeological projects in Damascus and Cairo, among others.
