Ford School of Public Policy, held in May of 2008, this interdisciplinary collection of papers addresses issues of transatlant...c cooperation (and competition) on economic regulatory matters between the European Union and the United States. Editors Evenett (U. of St. Gallen, Switzerland) and Stern (U. of Michigan, US) present nine papers written by contributors from both sides of the Atlantic, representing perspectives from different sectors of the economy and from different disciplines. Topics include proposals for regulatory cooperation to avoid future banking crises, the role of transatlantic cooperation for promoting liberalization of trade and investment rules at the global level, the consequences of different possible transatlantic initiatives for the trading patterns of developing countries, the record of transatlantic cooperation on competition law, competing regulatory frameworks on chemicals, the impact of different regulatory structures on safety and the environment on automobile makers on both sides of the Atlantic, and regulatory cooperation and competition in pharmaceuticals.
