| 概要 | This text for a one-semester graduate course covers classical aspects of mapping degree theory and includes 180 exercises and problems. The first chapter gives historical background on the notion of d...gree and the development of mapping degree theory. Four subsequent chapters develop the mathematics in a simple and direct style, assuming that readers are acquainted with basic ideas of differential topology. Chapter 2 covers manifolds, with special emphasis on aspects relevant to degree theory, such as regular values of differentiable mappings and tubular neighborhoods. The Brouwer-Kronecker degree and the Euclidean degree are presented in Chapters 3 and 4. There is also material on the de Rham computation in cohomological terms. Chapter 5 is devoted to proving the Hopf and Poincare-Hopf theorems. Exercises include examples, variations for different settings and additional applications, and guides for the reader to produce complete proofs of the classical results presented in Chapter 1.
