| 概要 | The hypergeometric function of one variable has played an important role in the development of many branches of mathematics such as special functions of real or complex variables, uniformization of Ri...mann surfaces, differential or difference equations, orthogonal polynomials, number theory etc. A comprehensive understanding of hypergeometric functions of multivariables, in some sense, has been a long-standing dream in mathematics. This book is not, however, an exhaustive textbook treatment of special functions. What the authors do is to construct, from the viewpoint of the complex integral of power product of polynomials, a unified theory of hypergeometric functions by using algebraic de Rham cohomology and (co-)homology with local constant sheaf on the complement of algebraic hypersurfaces. In addition, the authors hope to provide the reader with the fundamental concepts of analysis for hypergeometric functions such as logarithmic differential form, twisted cycle, Gauss-Manin connection, holonomic system of differential or difference equations, asymptotic behavior, connection problem etc. Hypergeometric functions have also found significant application in other branches such as orthogonal polynomials, conformal field theory, random matrix theory etc. Some of these topics are presented in the appendices.
