| 概要 | The field of intercultural communication studies is in a formative stage, or, as stated in the title of the first chapter (written by the two editors), it's at a crossroad. This handbook brings togeth...r diverse scholarly voices addressing a broad array of topics, which pertain to the field in the most inclusive understanding of its scope. Thirty-five contributions offer a wide ranging assessment and investigation of such topics as writing the intellectual history of intercultural communication; expanding conceptual boundaries of the field; speaking against the hegemony of English; gender; race; the politics of sadism; authenticity and identity in the portable homeland; and Mexicans and Taiwanese working on the US-Mexico border; among many other topics. Final chapters suggest a "proposal for concerted collaboration between critical scholars of intercultural and organizational communication," and offer a conclusion: "envisioning the pathway(s) of critical intercultural communication studies." Editor Nakayama is affiliated with Northeastern U.; Halualani is with San Jose State U. Contributors are scholars of communication, rhetoric, culture, ethnic studies, social ethics, postcolonial studies, and international language policy.
