概要 | First published in 1931, the Handbook of Psychology, according to editors-in-chief Damon (director, Stanford Center on Adolescence, Stanford U.) and Lerner (child development, Tufts U.), has served to...take stock of the current state of the field while simultaneously including indicators of the shape of the field to come. Seeking to maintain this tradition, they present the sixth edition of the work over the course of four volumes. The first volume's 17 contributions are primarily concerned with the theoretical contours of the field and include discussions of the historical evolution of developmental psychology, epistemology and its implications for methodology, dynamic systems theories, life span and life course theory, cultural psychology, bioecological models of human development, phenomenology and ecological systems theory, and other theoretical perspectives. Cognition, language, and perception mark the conceptual boundaries of the second volume, in which 22 chapters review current understandings of such issues as infant visual perception, motor development, early word learning, nonverbal communication, cognitive strategies, reasoning and problem solving, conceptual development, development of spatial cognition, and development in the arts. Attention shifts to social, emotional, and personality development in the third volume, which presents 16 chapters covering temperament, socialization processes, peer interactions and groups, prosocial development, the development of morality, gender development, and other topics. The final volume is concerned with child psychology research in practice, and its 24 chapters explore research advances and implication for practice in education, for clinical applications, and for social policy and social action.
