| 概要 | The occasion for this presentation is the upcoming 2011 San Francisco exhibition of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works from the Mus'ee D'Orsay. Ganz, curator and art historian at the Fine Arts...Museum of San Francisco, guides the reader through the remaking of Paris in the second half of the nineteenth century. While there are many works by artists such as Degas, Gauguin, Manet, Toulouse-Lautrec, Bonnard, Pissaro, Cassatt and Cezanne, the exhibition focuses on photographs and prints of aspects of Paris. The artists' records of the devastation caused by the Franco-Prussian War or the powerful symbolism of the building of the Eiffel Tower are a reminder that art can inform as well as edify. Many of the images, even those by well-known artists, are rarely reproduced. These give new insights into both fin-de- siecle Paris and the minds of those who were inspired by her.
