| 概要 | Lake Mead snakes through the mountains between Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon, straddling the state line between Arizona and Nevada, and the surrounding territory is a geological candy shop of Tertiar... basin-fill sedimentary rocks and volcanic and plutonic rocks, boundaries, structural relief, strike-slip faults, lateral tectonic transport, and other features. Focusing on what happened during the Miocene Epoch, some five to 20 million years ago, geologists explore the geophysics, basins and stratigraphy, structure, models, and the Mormon Mountains on the area's northern rim. Among their topics are Miocene tectonics and climate in the Lake Mead region recorded by Horse Spring Formation carbonates, volcanoes of the McCullough Range in southern Nevada, secondary normal faulting in the Lake Mead fault system and implications for regional fault mechanics, and a new core complex model for the South Virgin-White Hills detachment and extension in the eastern Lake Mead area encompassing southern Nevada and northwestern Arizona.
