| 概要 | In their mathematics research, Field (U. of Houston) and Golubitsky (Ohio State U.) study how symmetry and dynamics coexist. This work has led them to produce many pictures of symmetric chaos that the... reproduce here in part because they simply find them attractive and in part to explain the mathematics behind their production. They present "symmetric icons" produced with dihedral symmetry, "quilts" produced with repeating patterns, and "symmetric fractals" produced with fractals. They also address the relationship of their work to issues of geometric design and art. For this new edition they have improved the resolution of the images.
