概要 Jeske (philosophy, University of Iowa) examines how our emotional ties generate the reasons we form for decisions. She defines reasons as subjective agent-relative and objective agent-neutral. While r...asons of intimacy don't fit comfortably into this binomial frame, she explains how, using an intuitionist epistemology, they can be better understood. This theory is then expanded to include reasons for actions that are outside out areas of intimacy, such as community reasons for punishment. She believes that reasons we give for good behavior within our intimate group can be extrapolated to societal behavior. While Jeske recognizes that variables of chance make it impossible to neatly fit every reason into a pattern, she argues that her theories will lead to a greater understanding of metaethics.
