概要	The editors advise readers to begin at the end, that is, to access the contents of this reference via the indexes, which have been made as "full and explicit as possible." The contents comprise 275 al...habetically organized, cross-referenced essay-length entries (with a selective list of references) pertaining to important areas of anthropological work; 300 biographical entries (in a separate section); and a glossary with brief definitions of 600 technical terms. With the help of a six-person editorial board, editors Barnard and Spencer (both: U. of Edinburgh) undertook revision of their 1996 work, updating entries where necessary, of course, but also adding new entries to reflect the every-widening scope of the discipline. Among the areas now included are medical anthropology (AIDS, pharmaceuticals), gender and sexuality, finance, globalization, and science, as well as the global spread of the discipline itself and work being done in Japan and Latin America, for example.
