| 概要 | Human rights are at the nexus of international relations, international law, and comparative politics, and, according to editor Landman's (government, U. of Essex, UK) introduction, "events suggest th...t human rights are once again at a crossroads," having belied some of the worst predictions, yet continuing precarious. This anthology presents 56 previously published articles and book excerpts in four volumes, arranged according to the following broad themes: human rights and the challenge to realism; regime theory, compliance and human rights; measurement and methods; global civil society and norms diffusion; and analysis using a basic model and focusing on democracy, foreign aid, foreign direct investment, and international law. The selections include reviews (for example, theories of international justice, why nations obey international laws, the political science of human rights); theoretical and historical discussions (e.g. the origins of human rights regimes in postwar Europe, embedded liberalism in the postwar economic order); case studies (how many Peruvians have died between 1980 and 2000, aid allocation under Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter); and the practicalities of measurement of violations (contested counts of the disappeared in Argentina). Sources include such journals as International Organization, World Politics, Human Rights Quarterly, and International Studies Quarterly. There is no index.
