They draw from publicly available sources to provide a brief historical survey and detail 10 categories of satellites based on similarity of application or geography. These include experimental; global systems; mobile services; military; Russian; North American; European; Asian; African, Middle Eastern, South American, and Australian; and amateur, educational, and scientific satellites. Systems are presented chronologically according to launch dates, and drawings, block diagrams, and a list of details are included for each.
