| 概要 | Mukhija (U. of California at Los Angeles) examines a program undertaken by the government of the Indian state of Maharashtra in Mumbai (formerly Bombay). The program involved the tearing down of slum ...wellings and replacing them with higher- density buildings that include subsidized space for the original dwellers. The strategy was surprisingly politically popular, argues Mukhija, but suffered from significant implementation problems. He argues that better implementation could have been achieved with greater slum-dweller input, a focus more on common property rights than on private property rights, and an active government role in the provision of urban housing.
