| 概要 | Malik (religious studies, Erfurt U., Germany) describes the history and culture of Muslims in what are now the countries of Pakistan, Bangladesh, and India from the earliest arrival of Muslims in the ...th century into the colonial period of the early 20th century. The material is divided in two, beginning with a shorter historic overview that includes historiography and discussion of the development of South Asian Muslim religious culture. The remainder of the volume delves into the cultural aspects of Islam in South Asia, with detailed discussion of political context. Malik pays particular attention to the shifting agendas of the rulers, describing relations between Muslim and Hindu as experienced overtly in political and military events as well as in more subtle ways, for example, in architecture, trade, and social mores.
