| 概要 | In one sense rehistory is everything that occurred before human beings developed writing, all the way back to the beginning of time. Renfrew narrows that definition to the earliest traces of human soc...eties. Renfrew is a renowned British archaeologist who has worked in the field and taught at Cambridge. His books on the subject are used in classrooms and devoured by armchair archeologists. Here he turns from reports on his work to the study of the discipline of prehistory. The first section of the book gives the development of the field over the past two hundred years through the theories of Darwin to radio-carbon dating and DNA. After this, Renfrew discusses his own conclusions about how and, more importantly, why human civilizations developed in the way they did. This is an elegant and absorbing distillation of the wisdom accrued during a life in prehistory. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com) 続きを見る |
