| 概要 | This study argues that the domain traditionally covered by 'coordination' and 'subordination' in English can be subdivided into four distinct construction types, defined on the basis of differences in...the grammatical encoding of speaker-attitude and speaker-interlocutor interaction. It is shown that the four construction types constitute semantically, syntactically and pragmatically coherent categories which can be used to make sense of the many conflicting criteria proposed in the literature to distinguish subordinate constructions from coordinate ones. In addition, the study also applies the analysis to a number of problems in the more general area of clause combining, and explores its wider cross-linguistic applicability.続きを見る |
