There is also a section on the changes that occur to a body when it is in the earth and how the soil around the corpse can give information about it. The essays have all been updated to include the most recent developments in the field. It is an interesting comment on the sensitive nature of this work that the first chapter concerns the ethics of the profession, especially when cultural differences create opposition to examination of the bones of distant ancestors. Although intended for the specialist, the writing is lucid enough that an enthusiastic amateur or mystery writer could learn a great deal.
