概要 | Badiou went against the then-current tide of what he calls "moral philosophy disguised as political philosophy" nearly 20 years ago when he offered his unique take on set theory here. For one thing, h... actually wrote to communicate to his readers. For another, he used a mathematical approach, including Cantor's set theory and Godel's and Cohen's thinking on what a part of a multitude is, and re-reading the European philosophical tradition from Plato through Lacan to create four affirmations that contain the core of his approach. In this first English translation Badiou includes his thought on being, the event, quantity and knowledge, the generic and forcing, and includes appendices on the mathematical and logic bases of his work. Translator Feltham (literature and philosophy, American U. of Paris) also provides helpful notes on the text. Annotation ©2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com) 続きを見る |
