概要 Declaring that "human rights is a global and globalising phenomenon whose diffusion is closely related to the globalising spread of capitalism," Dine (director, Centre for Commercial Law Studies, U. o... London, UK) and Fagan (Human Rights Centre, U. of Essex, UK) present 13 essays. The volume opens with broad conceptual issues, including discussion of natural rights and property rights, human rights concepts and the "private" relationship between employer and labor, institutional responses to global social movements, and ethical shopping and its relation to human rights. The focus then switches to specific issues of the global trading system, including such topics as abusive exercise of intellectual property rights by multinational corporations, World Trade Organization agreements and the right to health, institutional racism in the World Trade Organization, and the use of tax relief incentives to encourage technology transfer through foreign direct investment. Finally, two studies focusing on South America explore the issue of debt repayment and human rights in Argentina and offer a critical look at neo-liberalism's impact on human rights in the wider region over the course of the past quarter century.
