| 概要 | Translation into a non-mother tongue has always been frowned on in Western society, and regarded as doomed to failure by both literary scholars and linguists. Pokorn (U. of Ljubljana) points out that ...uch translation has always been carried out, often by local translators working with a stylistic adviser for the target language to translate a literary work from a minor to a major language. The practice has been largely ignored by scholarship, so she begins the task here by approaching it theoretically to identify its characteristics and distinguishing features, and to determine the advantages of disadvantages of translators who are native speakers of the target language compared to non-native translators.
