Opening chapters address the predictability of financial vulnerability and include retrospective analysis of the Asian financial crisis of 1997-98 and consideration of indicators of vulnerability in Thailand. Issues of reform are considered in papers that include a presentation of econometric simulation of capital controls and financial crises in Malaysia and an exploration of the role of the bond market in financial development. The remaining papers provide econometric analysis of investment, growth, and productivity during the East Asian financial crisis; Thai wage rate changes during the crisis; China's estimated core inflation rate; and exchange rate or wage changes as mechanisms of international adjustment.
