| 概要 | This book contains revised versions of selected papers first presented at a July 2002 workshop as part of the April 2001-March 2004 project of the International Center for the Study of East Asia Devel...pment headquartered in Kitakyushu, Japan; two additional papers were added after the workshop. The text investigates various aspects of the Northeast Asian steel industry's restructuring process during the 1990s. Following an introductory overview, the remaining eight contributions are organized into sections on the steel industry in Japan, China, Korea, and Taiwan; and trade policy issues, restructuring, and strategic alliances. A sampling of topics: the Korean steel industry after the financial crisis of 1997-98, estimating the efficiency of Taiwan's steel-making firms, and the impact of U.S. safeguard measures on Northeast Asian producers.
