| 概要 | The project originated as part of the World Gold Council's efforts to raise awareness among journalists, scholars, and the informed public of gold's role as a monetary asset. Some 150 documents are pr...sented in sections on the rise of the gold standard from 1660 to 1819, the heyday of the gold standard from 1820 to 1930, and after the gold standard from 1931 to 1999. Among the documents are a 1667 excerpt from the diary of Samuel Pepys, 1698 correspondence from Isaac Newton to John Locke, the US Coinage Act of 1834, the 1919 Treaty of Versailles, a recommendation by Franklin D. Roosevelt to Congress for legislation to improve the financial and monetary system in 1934, and Richard Nixon's 1971 address to the nation outlining a new economic policy.
