| 概要 | The second edition (1999) is cited in Brandon/Hill; the most evident change of the third edition of this revered text is the addition of "Thomas" to the title, in honor of Nobel Laureate E. Donnall T...omas (emeritus, U. of Washington School of Medicine), the pioneer in the field. Aside from chapter revisions throughout, ten new chapters cover such topics as stem cell expansion; the theory and application of non-myeloablative regimens prior to allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation; and the experimental basis for transplantation for autoimmune diseases, long-term complications, and other conditions. The initial section, on the scientific basis for hematopoietic cell transplantation, contains 32 chapters on such topics as molecular aspects of stem cell renewal, genetic manipulation of hematopoietic stem cells, pharmacologic purging of bone marrow, and mechanisms of tolerance. In all, 110 chapters are grouped in eight sections on patient-related issues, sources of hematopoietic cells for human transplant, complications and their management, allogeneic and autologous transplantation for acquired diseases, allogeneic transplantation for inherited disease, and a single chapter on the future of the field.
