| 概要 | Based on a doctoral dissertation in international law at the U. of Cambridge (UK), this work examines the concepts of "sovereignty" and "Westphalia" (as in the peace congress that ended the Thirty Yea...s War in Europe and upon which the basis of "sovereignty" rests) as historical "mental-social phenomena." At base a philosophical examination of the function of words in the formation of socially constructed reality, the author suggests that the linguistic signs "Westphalia" and "sovereignty," regardless of the actual events of Westphalia, are "aetiological myths" that provide a way for international society to explain its genesis to itself.
