| 概要 | These proceedings contain papers from the mini-conference Factorization Properties of Commutative Rings and Monoids at the U. of South Carolina at Chapel Hill and the regular special session Commutati...e Rings and Monoids of the Southeast sectional meeting of the American Mathematical Society, both in October 2003. A major focus was the properties related to nonunique factorizations of elements into irreducible elements into commutative rings and monoids. Chapman (mathematics, Trinity U. San Antonio) provides a brief review to the theorem of Carlitz and includes 26 of the papers from the two conferences, including the seven that introduce the wide variety of approaches in this field, from the purely algebraic and combinatorial to number theoretic methods. Other topics include multiplicative ideal theory, the factorization of ideals and the ideal generation problems, integer-valued polynomials, Prufer rings and domains, and block and numeric monoids.
