概要 | Alcubierre (National Autonomous University of Mexico) has prepared this clearly written text for advanced graduate students who have had as prerequisite a serious course in relativity or experience in...differential geometry. He writes well and does a good job with explanations in a chatty, not particularly formal manner. After a brief review of general relativity, material is in sections on the 3+1 formalism, initial data, gauge conditions, hyperbolic reductions of the field equations, evolving black hole spacetimes, relativistic hydrodynamics, graviational wave extraction, numerical methods, and examples of numerical spacetimes. As is typical of texts at this level, no exercises are included. According to Wikipedia, the author is best known for his May 1994 paper "The Warp Drive: Hyper-fast travel within general relativity." He has appeared on television in a show titled "How William Shatner Changed the World" in which his warp bubble theory was discussed.
