He focuses on three equivalent definitions of f(A), based respectively on the Jordan canonical form, polynomial interpolation, and the Cauchy integral formula. Much of the material can be understood with only a basic grounding in numerical analysis and linear algebra, he says, but he is really writing for specialists in numerical analysis and applied linear algebra.
