Tfu embodies complex practices that can be used for good as well as power that can be abused. Bongmba (religious studies, Rice U.) employs personal anecdotes and the philosophy of Emmanuel Levinas--particularly concepts of justice and the Other--to produce a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary critique of witchcraft and its negative uses. Bongmba endorses Levinas' call for a "phenomenology of eros" as a way of reconfiguring interpersonal relationships and formulating a theological response to tfu. c. Book News Inc.
