概要 Reports on recent work in geology and soil science that relates to engineering geology and the design of large structures on land that is known to be prone to severe earthquakes but is too valuable to...resist. Emphasizes interdisciplinary studies that link the geological aspects of active faults with the seismological aspects of inland earthquakes. Seven of the studies focus on the 1995 Kobe earthquake in Japan, with information on strong motion records, changes in ground-water pressure at the Kamaishi Mine, and the Arima-Takatsuki tectonic line. Other topics include modeling the interaction between inland and off-coast earthquakes, the seismotectonic environment and design basis for the Darlington Nuclear Power Station, and bedrock structure around faults and its relation to earthquake disaster.
