概要 To Attain Success, musicians are often forced to become entrepreneurs as well - establishing performance venues, developing their own patrons, promoting their projects aggressively, and even becoming ...pportunists when the need arises. Such an undertaking requires a musician to develop extensive social and business skills. The Musician as Entrepreneur, 1700-1914 examines the activities of a variety of musical entrepreneurs in Britain, France, Germany, and the United States. The ten contributors to the book explore the work of early musical entrepreneurs, concert management in the nineteenth century, the lives of entrepreneurial women musicians, and the moral and intellectual status of musical entrepreneurs. How did musicians such as Telemann, Herz, Paganini, Lizst, and Beethoven take advantage of opportunities to advance their musical careers? How did women musicians operate under similar circumstances? How did the public perceive these musicians, and what were the implications of those perceptions for both music and society? How did musicians devise ways of "selling the serious"? By studying how musical entrepreneurs conducted their daily business activities, we gain insight into how they were able to reshape the framework of musical culture, and in the process, the nature of music itself.
