She begins by examining the literature on the diffusion of knowledge and constructing a methodological framework. Then she analyzes the influence of local knowledge spillovers on regional gaps, presents a model that gives an impression of these effects, and uses computer simulations to demonstrate the implications of the model. Finally she deals with the current situation in Europe using empirical analysis to demonstrate regional gaps and differences in economic and innovative activity across regions.
