Volume I (22 contributions written between 1916 and 1994) discusses a range of subjects, some of which include Montesquieu and sociological jurisprudence and the sociology behind it; Durkheim's, Gurvitch's, and N.S. Timasheff's sociology of law; recent Marxist theories of law, the state, and juridico-political ideology; Max Weber's tragic modernism and the study of law in society; Habermas, Foucault, and the future of legal studies; and Derrida's justice and Foucault's freedom. Volume II contains 20 contributions written in the 1980s and 1990s. Topics include how law constitutes social life, interpreting legal discourses, the new legal pluralism, and the horizons of regulation.
