Hayes takes into account critiques of the last 70 years or so of Keynes's The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money and explains not only the top layer but the workings underneath, from equilibrium to competition, money, expectation and liquidity, showing how these basic ideas interact. He covers, for example, the propensity to consume as it relates to employment and effective demand, the inducement to invest as it relates to long-term expectation and the nature of liquidity, and the singular pattern of employment, money and the price level.
