概要 This publication provides the most detailed collection of
African Development Indicators 2002: Drawn from World
The series began in 1989 and has been produced annually or biannually since 1992. The vo...umes are intended to provide Africans and people interested in Africa with a consistent and convenient set of data to monitor development programs and aid flows on the continent. The data is primarily from national statistical services in Africa, but also from international agencies and World Bank estimates. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
This report from the World Bank assembles economic, social, and environmental data from a variety of sources to present a broad picture of development across the continent of Africa. Spanning the period 1980-2003, the data are grouped into 17 chapters addressing (for example) prices and exchange rates; money and banking; external debt; communications; employment patterns; and public enterprises. Following a brief introduction, each chapter contains a set of charts, statistical tables, and technical notes specifying data sources. Annotation ©2005 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
In this year's data collection, The World Bank finds Africa doing great: conflicts have declined, economic performance has improved, some high performers are beginning to emerge, and 14 countries have achieved average growth rates over five percent since the 1990s. The tables are arranged under sections on basic indicators and national accounts, Millennium Development Goals, development outcomes, and household welfare by country. There is no index. This report provides data on about 450 macroeconomic, sectoral, and social indicators in 53 African countries. The book is designed to provide all those interested in Africa with a focused and convenient set of data to monitor development programs and aid flows in the region. An introductory essay explores the patterns of growth in Sub-Saharan Africa over the past 30 years. Part I provides data tables on basic indicators and national accounts. Part II presents data tables on progress in achieving eight Millennium Development Goals. Tables in Part III reveal data in areas such as private sector development, trade, infrastructure, malaria, and labor and migration. Part IV covers household welfare. The book will be useful as a reference for analysts and policymakers who want a better understanding of the economic and social developments occurring in Africa. An accompanying CD-ROM contains additional data, covering about 1,000 indicators from 1965 to 2005. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
This book/CD-ROM report contains data tables of about 450 macroeconomic, sectoral, and social indicators in 53 African countries, with additional data on the CD-ROM. Data are given on areas such as national and fiscal accounts, exchange rates, Millennium Development Goals, private sector development, human development, diseases, agricultural, labor, and migration. Commentary and interpretation sections shed light on corruption in Africa, such as absentee teachers in public schools and absentee doctors in public clinics, fertilizer and hospital supplies stolen or diluted, and the effect of corruption on local populations and the progress of development for the region. The CD-ROM contains data on about 1,600 macroeconomic, sectoral, and social indicators in 53 African countries. Time series include data from 1961 to 2008. A few macro indicators have provisional data for 2008, and other indicators have data for 2008-10. The software platform features enhanced mapping and charting, a choice of data selection techniques, and different display options. The book will be useful for analysts and policy makers. There is no subject index. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
