| 概要 | This volume collects 37 papers, published/presented from 1966-99, gleaned from the venerable career of Taran at Columbia U. in Greek and Latin languages. Commencing sans an introduction (which would h...ve been helpful), the first contribution traces the expression Amicus Plato sed magis amica veritas from Plato and Aristotle to Cervantes. Others elucidate topics including Plato's alleged epitaph; interpretations of Heliodorus, Heraclitus, and Parmenides; Platonism and "Socratic ignorance"; the manuscript tradition of Plato's Phaedo; and the authorship of the Epinomis. Reviews of several articles/books in the field are also included. Translations are not always given for key passages cited in Greek.
