概要	A text for advanced undergraduates (the previous edition was published as Lecture Notes in Physics, V.110 by Springer in 1979) which differs from more standard classical mechanics texts in that the au...hor--abandoning any pretense to "comprehensiveness"--has drawn his inspiration mainly from the conceptual bridges which link classical mechanics to quantum mechanics, to general relativity, to the study of chaos. The highly respected author has produced a text which is engagingly personal in its (almost passionate) voice, which is historically (as well as technically) informed, which underscores the beauty of a subject still vibrantly alive, and which stands as an invitation to creative thought. Ten chapters (which follow, idiosyncratically, the pattern of [say] H. Goldstein's Classical mechanics), many (often quite interesting!) exercises, and a supportive bibliography.
