| 概要 | Since cancer is the second biggest killer in the US next to cardiovascular disease, the voluminous research devoted to it demands an update to the first edition (1997). The editors' intent is not to p...ovide detailed and comprehensive information but instead, concise exposition with cross-references and a bibliography for further study. All articles open with the author's occupational provenance, a table of contents, and a glossary. The second edition is in four volumes instead of the first edition's three and features 220 articles instead of 163, 60% newly commissioned (articles from the first edition have been rewritten). General topics address various aspects of cancer's epidemiology, treatment, and molecular and genetic processes. Articles can be found under the following subject headings: angiogenesis, biological therapy, cancer genetics, chemical carcinogenesis, chemoprevention, drug resistance and treatment, gene therapy, genetic modifiers, imaging, immunology, invasion and spread, oncogenesis, photodynamic treatment, radiation, tumors and their biology, tumor suppressor genes, and viral carcinogenesis.
