概要	This volume depicts the distribution of ancient marine basins in western California from the late Oligocene to the late Pliocene periods. In addition, it shows positive feedback mechanisms between pal...olatitudinal changes in sea-surface paleotemperature gradients and changes in the diversity of marine mollusks along the California coast through time; uses effective temperature to define "equable" nearshore marine water masses; and analyzes extinction rates among macroinvertebrate marine taxa from coastal California and the possible causes of these extinctions.
