The book will be of interest to both students and practising architects, engineers and those involved in the creation of the built environment. It will also be of value to those involved in areas of product design, design history, building component manufacture and urban design. Kronenburg (architecture, U. of Liverpool, UK) and Klassen (Ryerson U.) compile three keynote speeches and 27 papers and projects on temporary and transportable structures-- their theory, history, context, design, and technology. Topics include Marcel Duchamp and Frederick Kiesler, the iPod, offshore architecture, avant-garde styles, ice fishing houses, tent design, city space, pre-manufactured buildings, on-site construction, scissor structures, and canopy systems. Eleven projects are detailed. The book is based on research presented at the third conference on Transportable Environments, held in 2004 in Toronto, and is intended for those is building design, building component manufacture, and urban design.
