| 概要 | Aum Shinrikyo's sarin gas terrorist attack on Tokyo subway lines in March 1995, and the group's revitalization since the attack and trials, have raised important issues for Japanese society. This work...explores questions about why ordinary people joined this bizarre organization, why they chose to stay in or leave the sect, and how the Aum phenomenon reflects a growing sense of alienation among younger and middle-aged Japanese. The author is visiting professor at Doshisha Women's College, Japan, and chairman of the Department of Asian Studies at Mary Baldwin College.
