概要 Van Houts (Cambridge U.) considers links between members of aristocratic families in England, Normandy, and the rest of the European continent. In facsimiles of 15 articles published between 1984 and ...998, she explores the contacts at the personal level by marriage, fosterage, or welcome in the case of political exile. She particularly looks at how The Norman Conquest of 1066 changed relationships, as trade and cultural exchanges across the Channel increased, and many landholders had to travel between estate in different countries. Her sources are Norman literature, Anglo- continental prose texts, Latin and vernacular Anglo-Norman poetry, and histories portraying families and women.
