| 概要 | The author, whose current academic affiliations are not given, explores the developments in central-local government relations in Japan, with reference to the landmark lawsuit brought in 1973 by a cit... in Osaka prefecture against the central government. He first describes the rules and the process of institutional change in Japan, then examines the historical context in which the lawsuit was initiated and traces the events that led the central government to its failure. He identifies sources of conflict within the local community and explains the patterns of national integration this type of episodic lawsuit reveals. Finally, he develops a typology to meaningfully compare and evaluate differences and similarities in national integration between levels of government.
