概要	The geographic center of gravity for the 14 reproduced articles is the tropical and south Atlantic, rather than the more familiar connections between Europe and North America. Temporally they consider...two centuries unique because of the unprecedented relative power of Europe and its overseas outliers over the rest of the world. Curtin does not here try to account for the rise of that power, though he considers its exercise on the periphery. An important theme is the role of the physical environment on the course of history, particularly the impact of disease, which is itself effected by the two factors of the collection's title.
