| 概要 | An account of India's involvement in the issue of Tamil separatism in the island nation of Sri Lanka. Primarily using Sri Lankan sources, De Silva first examines Indian regional ambitions and Indo-Sri...Lankan relations during the Cold War. He explores the origins of ethnic strife in Sri Lanka and the interest of India, with its own large Tamil population, in that strife. He then recounts India's involvement in three stages: covert support for Sri Lanka's Tamil separatists, from about 1980; India's attempts to mediate between the separatists and the Sri Lankan government, from 1983 to 1987; and India's role as a combatant against the separatists, from 1987 to 1990.
