| 概要 | The fifty-first year of LMP comes at the end of some lean years in publishing--so why has it grown from 1,656 to 1,773 pages? The 1992 edition carries 15,261 entries (2,548 new). LMP is getting too heavy for single volume paper binding--next year two volumes? The revised 1995 edition provides information on some 4,200 major publishers as well as hundreds of small presses. It features 1,200 new entries, presents some 12,000 industry services, and provides access to over 20,000 contact names. An "Industry Yellow Pages" provides names and telephone numbers of key industry personnel. Also included is a Calendar of Book Trade and Promotional Events. We who deal with the industry cannot operate without the recent officeholders; but the avaricious publisher will sell Plunkett Research (business directories) four stiff pages of ads bound into the middle of the U.S. Book Publishers section so that every time we open LMP we are confronted with this tacky hustle ('til we remove the offensive matter). We continue annoyed that the publisher section lacks a standard expedient--running headings (a flaw we've noted for a decade or more). It is now published in two volumes; the yellow pages is separated. Editorial frontmatter is largely a listing of the bestselling books (including such timeless titles as The 5 Day Miracle Diet.
