When demonstrating a procedure, the editors have chosen to select an application for which that procedure is superior to other available methods for the specific product. Offers 30 reliable, proven preparations--some which demonstrate new general synthetic applications and others for specific compounds of broad interest--focusing on the use of organometallic reagents and synthesis of chiral molecules. An update to the continuing series containing 31 edited and checked preparations that represent the most active and advanced areas in organic synthesis. These procedures are presented in six categories: simple one- and two- carbon synthons, chiral auxiliaries and stereocontrolled processes, organometallic reagents, useful starting materials for complex syntheses, new reactions of potentially broad utility and cryptands with novel guest-host properties. Like its predecessors, this volume contains checked and edited procedures for dealing with important new synthetic methods or specific compounds holding potential interest for synthetic chemists. Among the organic procedures covered are: kinetic resolution by enzymatic means, stereocontrolled processes that have proven useful for constructing relative complex molecules, the vital role that organometallic reagents play in the transformation of functional groups, preparations of starting materials that play an established role in important structural transformation and/or multistep syntheses, the preparation of oxaziridine--a selective, aprotic oxidizing agent of considerable importance, and a chiral auxiliary that has found substantial use in asymmetric reactions of various types. In keeping with the tradition of this highly successful and respected series, Volume 70 contains 31 procedures, carefully checked and edited by independent laboratories. For the first time, procedures are accompanied by a new section on waste disposal data. This includes any special disposal of chemical waste utilized by the submitters in order to comply with modern, clean disposal practices of toxic materials.
