| 概要 | Rhetoric is a word often attached to another, as in "political rhetoric," but what are the real origins of the rhetoric concept? Wardy (philosophy and classics, U. of Cambridge) masterfully elucidates...the origins of rhetoric beginning with Gorgias and following through with an analysis of Plato's counterblast, and the later history of the debate as it shifted and maneuvered its way from Isocrates, to Cicero, Aristide, and landed with Aristotle. Since, as usual, the fight is over a woman (to some extent anyway), Helen, Wardy carries the argument into the 20th century by discussing feminist perspectives on rhetoric.
