They present evidence that what psychologists know as dissociative identity disorder is similar to what other cultures call possession, and that some cases of both may be a result of ritual abuse. They are mildly alarmist regarding abusive cults operating in the US today, thinking that the evidence warrants further investigation but must be separated from the illusions, superstitions, and misinformation.
